world's first plastic-free, industrial compostable and vegan strap.
In 2022, ID Genève is taking another step forward in its quest for greater circularity with the “Treekind” strap collection entirely made from green waste and fully compostable at the end of the lifecycle. Award-winning Treekind® has been developed and produced by London-based company Biophilica and is entirely free of plastic, including its coating, and uses no synthetic dyes.
Once returned by customers the straps are digested by Eco-recyclage in Lavigny (50km away from Geneva) and turned into biogas (10kg of organic waste produces 1m3 of biogas). We create a virtuous circle by manufacturing straps that do not require any extraction of raw material, but instead upcycle waste to turn it into a useful object which will eventually be transformed into biogas once the bracelet is worn.
“Our goal is to fulfill the utmost standards of quality and craftsmanship, while committing to the power of collaboration within a circular economy," says ID Genève co-founder Nicolas Freudiger
The cork tencel lining of the strap is provided by the Swiss company ONO which provides the only through and through sustainable cork fabric currently available in the market. The highest quality cork is hand-applied under fair conditions by Portuguese experts to a natural backing of OEKO-TEX® certified 100% tencel© fabric. They don’t use any polyester or plastic layer in between and they only use water-based glue and a water-based finishing to guarantee long-lasting quality and durability as well as a fully sustainable approach. Both glue and finishing do not contain any harmful components unlike common synthetic glue or finishing, they do not release any harmful components into the atmosphere or on the skin when touched and they do not harm the environment.
ID Genève relies on the 69 years of expertise of the famous manufacture of bracelets Multicuirs, to ensure the quality and durability of the “Treekind” strap. This partner takes care of all the tests on scratchability (dry & wet), torsions, UV and wearing. Over 15 prototypes have been produced to ensure the Swiss standards of quality.
